Weekend at Julie's

Here are a few outtakes from the pugs' weekend away with my sister. We had a lovely time at our friends' wedding, but were very happy to come home to these faces! Wouldn't you be?Poor, sad little pug. They didn't feed or play with you at all, did they Natty? No, I'm certain they didn't give you any love at all.

And I'm almost positive you didn't get a single treat, did you Klausie. No cheese, no snuggles, definitely no walks. What a life for a pug!

Klausie Update

Thanks for the good wishes yesterday! Klausie seems to be doing a bit better today. He was still running a very low-grade temperature when we went to bed last night, but slept much better than he had previously and seemed more comfortable throughout the night. He had more pep in his step and a healthy appetite this morning, so hopefully we're on the mend! Natty had seemed a bit lethargic a few days ago (though not as much so as Klausie), so my guess is that some kind of virus or something has passed between the two of them. Keep your fingers crossed for us that it is gone! The pug dad and I are leaving for a wedding in Boston on Friday, and the little ones are staying with my sister, her fiance, and the hound. I really don't want to leave sick puggies behind, or I'll be a worried mess the entire time I'm gone. I swear they do it on purpose...one or both of them always has some sort of issue just before we leave town. It's like they're trying to keep us from going without them.

What do you think? Are the little buggers capable of that kind of deception?

Won't You Send Us Your Love?

My Klaus Bean is feeling yucky today. He had a fever all night and just hasn't been acting "right." No other symptoms, just seems to be suffering from a generally yuckiness...maybe some kind of bug. His temp has been gradually coming down, but we've got to keep an eye on him. Won't you send us your love, to help him mend?A puggy prayer or two wouldn't hurt, either. Feel better baby boy!

Deep Thoughts from a Little Pug

“Don't hurry. Don't worry. You're only here for a short visit. So don't forget to stop and smell the roses.”(Shhhh...he doesn't need to know they aren't roses.)

A Few of Her Favorite Things

Puppies and children: oh, how she loves the little ones! For little miss Natty, it doesn't get much better than this. :)She rolled in the grass, she nibbled and licked. She got hugs and kisses, and chased and raced! She's very puppylike herself...such a playful girl! But she's very good with the little ones too, so sweet and gentle.Did you make some new friends, Natty? The six-month-old at the picnic (pictured above) was just Natty's speed (Klausie loved playing with the puppy too!), but Natty especially took to this tiny girl...a 12-week-old chug puppy. What a cutie!Good girl, Natty! What a special day. :)

Puggy Picnic

Last Saturday we went to an outdoor puggy picnic to pay homage to the end of summer. A member of our pug meetup was kind enough to have us all over in his lovely back yard for a barbecue. :) We had such a nice time. I haven't had a chance to upload my photos from the event yet, but someone else shared their photos on the Meetup website, and who did I spy? It's little miss Natty! Not a great photo, perhaps, but can you pick her out of the herd? There she is, in the blue harness! Frolicking in a pack of pugs, happy as a clam. Natty just loooooves other dogs. Just wait 'til you see the tiny puppies that she got to play with. *Siiiigh.

Wait a second, there's another face I recognize. It's Klausie! This is pretty typical of my boy. The hustle and bustle of all the other dogs can be a bit much for him, but he sure does love to lay his belly in the cool grass. He's pretty content to observe all those crazy puggies from a distance, for the most part--but he'll join in when he feels the urge. :)

Helping Pugs in Need

Hi everyone! I thought I'd use the blog today to put in a little plug for Natty's alma mater, Northern Illinois Pug Rescue. NIPRA unfortunately has a temporary hold on incoming pugs due to a lack of funds and available foster homes. :( While I know that we all wish we could do more to help the pugs, the reality is that many of us just aren't able to foster, transport, donate monthly, or assist in all of the ways that we'd like to. Our pockets just aren't deep enough, we're at our "number of pets" limit, we don't have the time due to commitments to our families, jobs, or the pugs we already have... For whatever reason, sometimes it just isn't possible. And that's where fundraisers come in!

Beginning tomorrow, Sept. 15, NIPRA will be holding its annual Fall Yankee Candle Fundraiser. All proceeds benefit NIPRA and will go directly toward helping with the rescue pugs. I love the Yankee candle fundraiser because these candles really sell themselves--they make great gifts, they're so wonderfully season-appropriate, and they smell FANTASTIC. (They also go a long way towards covering up the smell of a stinky pug...hehe.) Who doesn't love a Yankee candle?

If you know of anyone who would be interested in purchasing, or if you can think of someone to whom you owe a gift, please consider participating! All of the information is provided at the link below, and sales go up until October 1.

NIPRA 2010 Yankee Candle Fundraiser

Whether you purchase one candle or ten, all profit will go toward helping sweet pugs in need--just like my Natty girl once was. You can see the current list of sweet NIPRA fosters here. Won't you help NIPRA continue to do what it does best?

Who Wants More Puppy Klaus?

Never fear, I've got SO many more where this one comes from.
He was a sassy little beast, eh? Cute, but SASSY.

A Tribute to Floyd

My fancy goldfish went to the big aquarium in the sky yesterday. He was the only one of the original group of three to make it beyond the first year...and then four more years beyond that. He survived 5 moves and innumerable illnesses, but I guess it was just his time. You were such a trooper, Floyd! He was completely black when I got him, but over the years he developed this gold pattern. Kinda cool, huh? I guess he wanted to show us just how "fancy" he was. :) Natty liked to watch him swim. She would whine and whimper at the tank, as though she wanted to play.Is that cute or what? You were a great pet, Floyd. We'll miss you!
